Clurdi

"Don't let their size decieve you. One of the little guys nearly drank all of my ale."

—Bibble

The Clurdi are a species of tiny, tough, partying, and slightly abrasive warriors that roam the Worlds. Whether on a ship amongst the stars or in the closest available tavern, the Clurdi strive for a life filled with thrills.

Life is the Party

For many of the Clurdi, their lives are something that needs to be lived every single day. As such, many Clurdi have found that if they find somethining fun, then they will try to do it as much as possible. Whether it be rehearsing and naming flashy attacks for upcoming fights or throwing the wildest party that some taverns have ever seen, the Clurdi explore these possibilities as often as possible.

Tougher Than Nails

The Clurdi, despite their small size, are known as fantastic survivalist both in combat and in extreme environments. They have been known to brush off blows that could simply crush any other creatures of their size. As well, the Clurdi are no strangers to the extremes that can be seen in the Worlds. Whether its the cold, heat, or even the vacuum of space Clurdi seem to be able to survive if not thrive.

Miniature Vagabonds

Ever since the first of their species awoke from deep slumbers in the Astral Sea, one thing has remained very consistent in the mindsets that each of them formed. That was that they needed to see and experience it all. Clurdi are notorious for their wander lust and the strange places where they can be found. They crave the adventure that could be around any corner, and they are determined to get into those corners. As a side effect of this, they don't have societies of their own, instead taking bits and pieces of other cultures. They as well tend to have names that are from a whole menagerie of different cultures and people.

Clurdi Traits

Your Clurdi character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1. Alternatively, when determining your character’s ability scores, you may increase one of those scores by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1.

Age. Outside of the Astral sea, Clurdi reach maturity at age 16 and live up to 50 years.

Alignment. Clurdi side more with chaos, leaning towards good.

Creature Type. You are a Monstrosity.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language.

Size.

The size of Clurdi in both their youth and once they mature is quite tiny, being only around 6 inches to 1 foot tall. Your size is Tiny. As a Tiny sized creature, you are unable to wield items designed for creatures of Medium size of larger.

Diminutive Might.

Despite your tiny size, you have a great deal of strength. You count as a size Large creature when determining your carrying capacity, and the weight you can push, drag, or lift and determining your ability to both shove and grapple a creature. If you become a size that is larger than Medium, then instead you will be treated as one size larger than your current size when determining these capabilities.

Extreme Resilience.

Thanks to your adaptations to some o fthe most extreme environments, you have gained the following benefits:

-You have advantage against saving throws against extreme weather conditions

-You do not need to breathe when submerged or in the vacuum of space.

-Whenever you finish a long rest you can choose to gain a resistance to either cold or fire damage.

One Size Fits All.

You have learned magic capable of resizing items down to be more wieldy for your tiny stature. Over the course of a minute you are able to perform a ritual that shrinks down an item down to size Tiny, allowing you to comfortably wield it. As well, you are able to perform a separate ritual over the course of a minute that allows you to return an item back to its original size.

When any item is shrunken down, many changes happen to said item. Refer to the Rules for Differently Sized Creatures and ..Objects, which is included with this homebrew.

Rules for Differently Sized Creatures and Objects.

Differently Sized Creatures

As a creature whose size may be an outlier to the common peoples of the worlds, you interact with it in a different way than most. The following are rules for how these interactions would work:

Space:

The space that a creature takes up has large effects on its capabilities in both combat and in the day to day of its everyday life. Below will be listed two tables. The first is the sizes of creatures when it comes to height. The second will be the sizes of creatures in terms of their miniatures in combat.

Size Height Creature of Listed Size
Tiny Under 2ft tall Imp, Sprite
Small 2 to 4ft tall Goblin, Kobold
Medium 4 to 8ft tall Bandit, Commoner
Large 8 to 15ft tall Minotaur, Ogre
Huge 15 to 30ft tall Cyclops, Treant
Gargantuan Over 30ft tall Roc, Kraken
Size Space Per 5ft Square
Tiny 4 per square
Small 1 per square
Medium 1 per square
Large 1 per 4 squares (2x2)
Huge 1 per 9 squares (3x3)
Gargantuan 1 per 16 squares (4x4)

Here is an example of how these differences come into effect during a combat encounter:

While in combat, a Bandit that wishes to surround a Commoner would need 8 Bandits total in order to fully surround them. However, an Ogre would only need 4 total in order to Surround that same Commoner. Inversely, a Bandit would need 12 Bandits to fully surround an Ogre.
Passing and Squeezing:

Something to also keep in mind is how your size affects your abilities to squeeze into smaller places alongside with pass creatures around you.

Passing: You can move through a nonhostile creature’s space. In contrast, you can move through a hostile creature’s space only if the creature is at least two sizes larger or smaller than you. Remember that another creature’s space is difficult terrain for you.

Whether a creature is a friend or an enemy, you can’t willingly end your movement in its space.

Squeezing: A creature can squeeze through a space that is large enough for a creature one size smaller than it. Thus, a Large creature can squeeze through a passage that’s only 5 feet wide. While squeezing through a space, a creature is considered in difficult terrain, and it has disadvantage on attack rolls and Dexterity saving throws. Attack rolls against the creature have advantage while it’s in the smaller space.

Differently Sized Objects

Being of a different size has often lead to the creation of creating all sorts of objects that are more wieldy for a person of a different stature, especially with weapons. Below will be some rules for how differently sized objects would work mechanically:

Power and Properties:

Objects, especially weapons, that are made for or have been resized to a different scale have many changes between their damage and properties.

Item Size Damage Difference Example Strength Score DC
Tiny Damage Die decreases by 1 size 2D6 to 2D4 Not Applicable
Medium & Small Damage Die stays the same as original weapon reference Not Applicable Not Applicable
Large Damage Die increases in amount by 1 2D6 to 3D6 15
Huge Damage Die increases in amount by 2 2D6 to 4D6 21
Gargantuan Damage Die increases in amount by 4 2D6 to 6D6 27

As well, a weapon or item that is size Tiny will gain the light property, which replaces the heavy property should the item shrunk have it. Items of size Large and larger have the heavy property, which has been changed to mean:

A creature has disadvantage on attack rolls with this item if it does not meet or surpass the Strength score DC specified for an item of its respective size.
