Mothin
The end of the age of night birthed a seperation. What remained of Lumina, the original vampires, was ended in dust and ash. Admid the vaccuum, the Mothin witnessed the return of the original light. Exposing all to its majesty. Some scholars believe the original Mothin and original vampires were one in the same, decended into what they are now. Adapted from the explosure of the sun.
Many still worship the light of the sky, the moon. Causing the divide over the religion, causing many to seperate and spread out.
Varied & Plentiful
There are many forms of Mothin that are rather varied. You have many that assemble moths, and others that are more humanoid; the spectrum of form the Mothin call it. There are two factors that can happen to explain this. The form of the parents and heritage of the offspring but also when they are born.
Mothin are born from its mother and only seem to born during the night under the moon even for those who worship the sun. Many believe the phase of the moon determines the form of the Mothin.
Being moth-like humanoids adorned with fur, antennae, and finely scaled wings, they can appear tall and bug-like or short and more human appearing. As for why this happens is up to debate. Many seem to believe that it is because of a blessing (or curse as the moon groups believe) of when Gloria ended the Age of Night. The human appearing mothin are praised in the Sun groups while not so in the moon groups.
They can be nearly any color dependant on their environments. Mainly combinations of white, browns and greens. However, many mothin take great pride in dyeing new, decorative patterns into their wings.
However, even mothin with more subtle natural coloring can still possess intricate and beautiful patterns on their wings. Their wings come in many shapes and sizes and may have long tails. These tails do not affect their flight abilities at all, instead existing solely to provide a distraction to predators. Most Mothin cannot fly when wet. Most mothkin possess feathery antennae, but some may more closely resemble the clubbed antennae of butterflies. They generally have compound eyes which take up a considerable portion of their faces, providing them with superior darkvision at the expense of reduced resolution.
Isolated & Divided
The religions among mothin is split into sun or moon worship. They traditionally use enclosed paper lanterns and disallow open flame so as to not usurp the primacy of either or. Although, outsiders of noted that it may be because early Mothin got hypnotized by a adventuring party's campfire and burned their wings off.
Mothin have a traditional art form where painters ink designs onto the sides of these lanterns, which project onto cave walls when lit from inside. Many religious services involve an elder telling stories while silhouettes of mythic figures flicker behind them.
However, smaller groups of mothin worship the moon, an ancient practice from before the human goddess Gloria ended the age of night and exposed the world to the sun. These mothin of the moon will travel around a their sacred site, commonly a forest, mountain or very tall tree, every new moon, releasing small clouds of silver fireflies as they go. The journey begins at dusk, and commonly ends at midnight.
At the end of the journey, the mothin will gather and tell the story of their moon goddess, whose name has underwent change. Many will say it is Luma. While this could be the same as the Goddess of the Shattered moon Carmilla. The most devout of these will not like this name as it is the goddess that sided with Gloria during the end of the Age of Night.
The sun Mothin are more rather open to going into towns and cities, but these sightings are a bit more rare. While more operational during the day, these mothin are more likely to talk to non-mothin, worshipping Gloria for bringing about the sun from the night.
Many Mothin tend to stay in isolated and tight locations. A lot of the time, forests. Only coming out around night time. While many of these "eclipses" try to stay away from towns and cities, smaller groups of these mothin always venture out closer to these towns. As a result, causing some panic among the populace, creating a minor conflict.
Its when the sun and moon groups conflict that causes disturbances around mortal cilivizations. But many of these little fights happen at night. Those who claimed to have seen these claim to never want to go out at night again.
Mothin Names
In most mothin cultures, the mother is assigned the task of naming each of her children as they grow. These names will often change at the whim of the mother, and usually do not become official until metamorphosis. Their names are often difficult to pronounce with human tongues, while many mothin are born without a human tongue and doesn't bother them, some still do. As a result, these names are a hybrid of both pronouncations of the names. With a ' in the center. With a even amount of letters with some exceptions.
The names have no "male" or "female" difference due to the languange combination.
