Oath of Ruin

In the shadows of desolation, the Oath of Ruin is sworn. These paladins believe in the serenity of nothingness, seeking to end nations and collapse worlds. Architects of an eternal calm born from ruins, they unravel reality with each strike, convinced that in death lies the ultimate peace.

Tenets of Ruin

Become the Herald of Ruin: See yourself as the herald of ruin, chosen to deliver the world from the illusion of significance. Through your actions, announce the coming tranquility of universal nonexistence.
Guide Souls to the Void: See in the dissolution of the world an act of mercy. Guide the souls of the living towards the tranquility of the void, where the burdens of existence are lifted.
Silence the Discordant Symphony: Consider the world's existence as a discordant symphony. Through ruin, silence the cacophony of disharmony, allowing the universe to drift into the harmonious tranquility of nonexistence.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of Ruin Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature to see how oath spells work.

Channel Divinity

3rd-level Oath of Ruin feature
you gain the two following Channel Divinity options.

Stare into the Void: Using your channel divinity you can cause creatures to see visions of a ruined world, causing them to descend to madness. As an action choose a number of creatures equal to half your proficiency bonus within 30 feet of you, each creature must succeed on a Wisdom save against your spell save DC or roll on the short-term madness table and be afflicted with the rolled madness for 1 minute.

A creature afflicted with madness in this way can roll another wisdom save at the start of its turn to end the madness.

The Void Stares Back: Using your channel divinity you can bring forth ruin onto an area, causing it to wither and decay. As an action, you cause ruin in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on a point within range. Each creature of your choice in that area must make a Constitution saving throw, taking a number of d8s equal to your proficiency bonus of necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Nonmagical vegetation in this area withers, the land becomes black and infertile, and structures decay and erode, becoming vulnerable to all damage until fixed.

Unholy Smite

3rd-level Optional Feature, which alters Divine Smite
With your DM's approval, you can change your Divine Smite feature so that it always deals necrotic damage rather than radiant, to better fit your character.

Aura of Gloom

7th-level Oath of Ruin feature
You emanate a constant aura of dreary darkness around yourself, this gloom turns dim light within 10 feet of you into darkness, and bright light in the same area to dim light, and creatures of your choice that enter this area for the first time on a turn or start their turn there have their movement speed reduced by half, additionally, as a bonus action, you can enable or disable this aura.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

One with the void

15th-level Oath of Ruin feature
When casting any of your subclass spells, you can choose a number of creatures equal to your charisma modifier (minimum of 1) to be unaffected by any of the spells effects, not take any damage from it, and be able to see through any darkness made by it.

In addition when casting Hunger of Hadar or Evard's Black Tentacles, you can make it so that the spell is centered around yourself, affects a 5-foot-radius sphere, and follows you while the spell lasts.

Herald of the End

20th-level Oath of Ruin feature
You gain the ability to become one of the void to bring forth ruin. As an action you can become an embodiment of ruin, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You deal an additional 2d8 necrotic damage when you hit creatures with a weapon attack.
  • You ignore resistance to necrotic damage and can treat immunity to it as resistance (which is not ignored).
  • Creatures that you kill and everything they wearing and carrying, except magic items, are reduced to a pile of fine gray dust. Such a creature can be restored to life only by means of a true resurrection or a wish spell.
