## Sorcerous Origin ### {subclass-name} Stormborne sorcerers draw their power from the elements, channeling the fury of a mighty storm into devastating magics. Stormborne can be created in many circumstances - perhaps they were born in a brutal tempest, or saved from certain death amidst a raging hurricane. Or, in some cases, blessed more directly by a mighty god of storms. Regardless, Stormborne are singularly powerful sorcerers, able to channel wind, rain, and lightning as few others. While their backgrounds are varied, they do tend slightly towards evil — the destructive nature of their powers can be too tempting for some. #### {subclass-name} Origin Features | Sorcerer Level | Feature | |:---:|:-----------| | 1st | Origin Spells, Voice of the Wind, Gathering Storm | | 6th | Storm's Favor | | 14th | Raging Tempest | | 18th | Eye of the Storm | \columnbreak
#### Origin Spells You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Origin Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know. | Sorcerer Level | Spells | |:---:|:-----------| | 1st | *manipulate wind^K,^^SDS^*, *lightning tendril^K,^^SDS^*, *violent updraft^K^* | | 3rd | *become wind^K^*, *crackle^K^* | | 5th | *call lightning*, *vortex blast^K^* | | 7th | *aero barrage^K^*, *stormcloud^SDS^* | | 9th | *shape winds^SDS^*, *sky burst^K^* |
Spells marked with ^SDS^ are from Spells That Don't Suck. Spells marked with ^S^ are from So Many Spells. Spells marked with ^K^ are by KibblesTasty. All are included below.
#### Voice of the Wind At 1st level, you are able to manipulate the wind and hear its call. You can use your Charisma modifier in place of Intelligence or Wisdom when making Nature or Survival checks to predict or understand the weather. In addition, you learn the Auran language. \pagebreakNum > ##### Storm Spells > A number of features in this subclass refer to storm spells, which are broadly any spells involving lightning or wind. An appendix listing sample spells is included at the end. #### Gathering Storm Also at 1st level, you can call upon the storm's might to empower your spellcasting. Whenever you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you gain 1 rank of Gathering Storm, up to 4 ranks. You gain additional benefits, cumulatively, for each rank of Gathering Storm you have. * **1 rank**: Your movement speed increases by 5 feet, and your jumping distance is doubled. * **2 ranks**: When you cast a storm spell of 1st level or higher that deals damage, one target takes 1d8 additional damage of the spell's type. * **3 ranks**: You can cast a cantrip as a bonus action, as if you were 1st level. * **4 ranks**: Your storm spells of 1st level and higher are all cast as if at one slot level higher. Once you have access to sorcery points, at the start of each of your turns, you can choose to spend 1 sorcery point to increase your Gathering Storm by 1 rank. If your Gathering Storm is at maximum rank or didn't increase on your turn, it decreases by 1 rank at the end of each of your turns. Your Gathering Storm resets to 0 ranks whenever you roll initiative. #### Storm's Favor At 6th level, you are particularly blessed by the storm and can offer protection against its power. You gain resistance to lightning damage, and you automatically succeed on any saving throws against your own storm spells. In addition, as a reaction before a friendly creature would take damage from one of your storm spells, you can hurl a gust of wind at it and move it 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks. #### Raging Tempest At 14th level, your Gathering Storm feature improves, as you summon even more of the storm's fury into yourself. Its benefits are improved, and it now can go up to 5 ranks. * **1 rank**: Your movement speed increases by 10 feet, and you gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed. * **2 ranks**: Your storm spells deal 1d8 additional damage of their type. * **3 ranks**: You can cast a cantrip as a bonus action, as if you were 5th level in this class. * **4 ranks**: Your storm spells of 1st level and higher are all cast as if at one slot level higher. * **5 ranks**: You gain immunity to lightning damage, and can only be affected by storm spells if you choose to be. All creatures of your choice within 60 feet gain resistance to lightning damage. \columnbreak > ##### Maxed Out? > Note that it's impossible to stay at max rank on Gathering Storm or Raging Tempest just by casting spells. The intended use is that you *must* spend a sorcery point at the start of your turn to make use of the maximum rank features. #### Eye of the Storm At 18th level, you can command the storm as effortlessly as you breathe. As a bonus action, you can envelop yourself in a small storm cloud, gaining the following benefits for 10 minutes. * You gain a flying speed equal to twice your walking speed, with hover. * Any creature that hits you with a melee attack is immediately struck by lightning bolt erupting from you, and must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC or suffer 2d10 lightning damage. * Ranged weapon attacks against you are made at disadvantage. This storm cloud dissipates if you fall unconscious, or end it as a bonus action. After you summon a storm cloud in this way, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend 6 sorcery points to do so. ### {subclass-name} Origin quirks The following are some optional quirks for a player of this subclass to choose from. | d6 | Quirk | |:---:|:-----------| | 1 | Your eyes crackle like a raging storm. | | 2 | Your hair blows of its own accord when you cast spells. | | 3 | You have been struck by lightning more times than you can count. | | 4 | Your body is covered in blue-white tattoos. | | 5 | You usually have a faint odor of burnt hair. | | 6 | You are always damp. | \pagebreakNum ## Appendix 1: Storm Spells The Stormborne Origin Sorcerer has special interactions with storm spells.
