Monk: Way of the Kraken

From the abyssal depths where sunlight dares not linger, the Kraken Monks draw their enigmatic power. These monks harness the formidable might of the ocean's most fearsome leviathan, channeling the kraken's relentless strength and cunning into their martial prowess. Like the mighty kraken, which rules over the shadowy waters with tentacles far-reaching and all-encompassing, practitioners of this path command the battlefield with unparalleled control and terrifying grace. They embody the storm, the surge, and the undertow, their strikes as relentless as the sea's wrath and their grip as inescapable as the depths.

Grasp of the Deep

Starting at 3rd level, you can spend 1 Ki point as a bonus action to manifest ki-empowered tentacles for 1 minute that you can use to make unarmed strikes. During this time, your unarmed strikes gain a reach of 10 feet.

When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can force them to make a Dexterity saving throw against your Ki save DC. If they fail, they are grappled by you, and you can pull them to a space adjacent to you. Additionally, when you use the Attack Action against a creature that is grappled by you, you can make an additional unarmed strike against them as part of the Attack Action.

Fluid Dynamics

Also at 3rd level, you gain a swim speed equal to your walking speed, you can breath underwater, and you have advantage on Dexterity checks and saving throws while underwater.

Ink Burst

At 6th level, as an action, you can spend 2 ki points to expel a spray of ink from your mouth. The effects vary based on your environment:

  • Underwater: Expel a cloud of ink in a 15-foot radius sphere around you, creating a heavily obscured area for 1 minute. This cloud is stationary and does not move with you. You and creatures you designate can see through this ink. Creatures who start their turn in the cloud, or move through it on their turn must make a Constitution saving throw against your Ki save DC or take 1d8 poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
  • Above Water: Spray ink in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your Ki save DC or take 1d8 poison damage and be blinded until the end of your next turn.

Titanic Might

At 11th level, you gain the ability to throw any object you can lift as a ranged Monk weapon with a range (20/60). If the object is a creature grappled by you, it takes damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die when thrown, and if it collides with another creature or object, both take the same amount of damage.

Additionally, while grappling a creature, you can spend 3 ki points to attempt a special shove that slams the target into the ground or against a wall, dealing damage equal to three rolls of your Martial Arts die in bludgeoning damage and stunning the target until the end of your next turn if it fails a Strength saving throw against your Ki save DC.

Storm of the Kraken

At 17th level, as an action, you can spend 5 ki points to create a storm surge that surrounds you in a 30-foot radius emanation for 1 minute. During this time the effects vary based on your environment:

  • Underwater: The water in the area becomes swirling and turbulent, pulling water and creatures towards its center, and becoming difficult terrain. Creatures that start their turn or move into the whirlpool must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, they are moved 5 feet towards the center of the whirlpool and take 3d6 bludgeoning damage. During this time, your reach with unarmed strikes extends to 15 feet.
  • Above Water: The ground within the area is covered in 1-foot deep swirling, electrified waters and is considered difficult terrain. Any creature touching the water gains vulnerability to lightning damage, and the damage type of your unarmed strikes changes to lightning for the duration of this effect.
