Otherwordly Patron

At 1st level, a Warlock gains the Otherworldly Patron feature. The following option is available to a Warlock, in addition to those offered in the Player's Handbook.

The Fiend

My studies led me to a creature that introduced itself as Baltharius. He appeared before me in the form of a typical pit fiend - hulking frame, large wings, massive claws and fangs, a perfect specimen...

Well, at least that's what I thought at first, before he started speaking.

There was something to Baltharius that made me believe he was no ordinary pit fiend. Maybe it was the way he spoke, or maybe the fact that he was wearing a suit of armor... Nevertheless, he was surprisingly well-mannered for a devil trapped in an inverted magic circle. He politely asked me why I summoned him, and even... smiled wryly when I told him I was looking for the power hidden within the Nine Hells. And then... Then he said something that will haunt me until the day I die...

I believe we can come to an agreement.

1st burning hands, command

Dark One's Blessing

Starting at 1st level, when a life ends in your presence, you are able to snatch a part of the creature's soul before it reaches its destination. As a reaction when a creature you can see dies within 120 feet of you, you can open your free hand and cause a Tiny crystal shard to appear there, a soul shard.

You can have a maximum number of soul shards equal to your proficiency bonus, and you can't create one while at your maximum.

You can use the soul shard as a spellcasting focus for your warlock spells. Additionally, as a bonus action, you can crush the soul shard you're holding. When you do so, you gain one of the following benefits:

  • You gain temporary hit points equal to your Warlock level + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) .

  • You cast the Eldritch Blast cantrip as part of the same bonus action, but you can conjure only one beam regardless of your level.

Fiendish Suppression

Starting at 1st level, when you deal psychic or fire damage with a spell or an ability, you may choose to use your reaction to make the spell or ability ignore creatures’ fire or psychic resistance for that spell’s or ability’s duration. You may also treat immunities to fire and psychic as resistance when using this feature.

Once you use this feature, you may not use it again until you finish a long rest.

Dark One's Own Luck

Starting at 6th level, you can call on your patron to alter fate in your favor. When you make an ability check or a saving throw, you can use this feature to add a d10 to your roll. You can do so after seeing the initial roll but before any of the roll's effects occur.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Fiendish Resilience

Starting at 10th level, you can choose one damage type when you finish a short or long rest. You gain resistance to that damage type until you choose a different one with this feature. Damage from magical weapons or silver weapons ignores this resistance.

Alter Fate

At 10th level, your bond with your patron has grown closer, granting you the following benefit:

  • When you have no remaining uses of the Dark One's Own Luck or Fiendish Suppression traits, you can break a soul shard in your possession to use one of those feature.

Hurl Through Hell

Starting at 14th level, when you hit a creature with an attack, you can use this feature to instantly transport the target through the lower planes. The creature disappears and hurtles through a nightmare landscape.

At the end of your next turn, the target returns to the space it previously occupied, or the nearest unoccupied space. If the target is not a fiend, it takes 10d10 psychic damage as it reels from its horrific experience.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
