The Warrior of Truth
"How, you ask? Well, let me make an example. Your fingers tap in rhythm when you listen, the habit of a mind cataloguing, not conversing. You’re already imagining how you’ll record this exchange, not the truth in my words... No? Do not deny it, your eyebrow rises half an inch as you do... and your gaze drifts toward the brightest light in the room when you seek comfort when caught. You travel the planescape, scholar, chasing understanding as though it hides from you. But truth does not hide. It merely waits for you to stop looking away."
--a monk of the Silent Temple, Warrior of Truth.
The Warrior of Truth embodies the pure essence of perception. While others rely on sight and sound alone, these monks perceive the subtle currents of thought, emotion, and intent. Through practised insight, they see the truth in every detail, reading a lie in a flicker of the eye, sensing deception in a heartbeat’s irregularity, and predicting an attack before it’s made. Warriors of Truth act as the ultimate arbiters, exposing falsehoods and ensuring that truth and justice prevail.
Class Features
| Level | Feature |
|---|---|
| 3rd | Tactical Awareness, Studied Observation |
| 6th | Voice of Reason |
| 11th | Superior Observation |
| 17th | Precognitive Insight |
Level 3: Tactical Awareness:
You gain absolute clarity in sensing your surroundings. You have Expertise in Wisdom (Insight). Additionally, you gain blindsight out to a radius of 10 feet. This radius increases to 20 feet at 9th level and 30 feet at 15th level. Your heightened awareness also sharpens your response to conflict. You add your Wisdom modifier to initiative rolls.
Level 3: Studied Observation:
Your practised insight allows you to see through a creature’s intentions. By focusing for 1 minute or by spending 1 Focus Point and using a bonus action, you can observe a creature with an Intelligence of 4 or higher, making a Wisdom (Insight) check against the creature’s Passive Deception (10 + their Deception modifier). On a success, you gain the following benefits:
- Add your Wisdom modifier to any Charisma check made against the creature.
- You discern the creature’s current emotional state.
- You can tell when the creature is deliberately lying to you.
- The creature cannot surprise you.
You may observe a number of creatures in this way equal to your Wisdom modifier. When you observe a new creature you lose the oldest observation.
Level 6: Voice of Reason:
You gain the ability to pierce through to a creature’s soul with a voice of authority.
-
One-Word Command: As a bonus action, you may spend 2 Focus Point to issue a brief command of no more than two words to a creature you can see. The creature must make a Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, it follows the command on its next turn. This command cannot directly harm the creature. Whether the save succeeds or fails, the creature becomes aware of your attempt.
-
Persuasive Utterance: As a bonus action, you may spend 3 Focus Points to speak a short, reasonable request. The creature must make a Charisma saving throw (with advantage if it’s hostile to you). On a failed save, it follows your instructions to the best of its ability for up to 1 hour, provided that the instructions don’t directly harm it. The creature only becomes aware of your influence if it succeeds on its saving throw.
If you use this feature on a creature under your Studied Observation, reduce the Focus Point cost by 1 (to a minimum of 1).
Level 11: Superior Observation:
Your ability to read intentions and actions becomes nearly unparalleled. When you successfully use Studied Observation on a creature, you gain the following additional benefits:
- The creature has disadvantage on attack rolls against you.
- You have advantage on saving throws against effects created by the creature.
- When using your Deflect Attack feature against the creature, roll twice and choose the higher result.
- You may take an additional reaction each round, provided it is in response to an action taken by the observed creature.
Level 17: Precognitive Insight:
Your superior insight allows you to glimpse outcomes before they unfold. As a reaction, when a creature within 30 feet of you makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw using Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution, you can spend 5 Focus Points to determine whether the creature succeeds or fails. You make this decision after the creature declares the action but before the roll is made or the outcome is known.
