Summoner, Origin, Vestige

A Summoner is a warlock who enters a covenant with an Origin— also called an Origin Beast or a Primal— at the start of their journey. During their travels, the Summoner can find other Origins with which to forge more covenants. However, in order to draw out the full power of the Origin's pact, the Warlock must first Summon the Origin's Vestige.

Calling upon a fragment of the Origin's power, the Summoner brings forth a Vestige of the Origin. Whether it's swirling flames taking the shape of the hellish Ifrit, the winds coiling to reveal the bewitching Garuda, or the tidal wave that ushers the serpentine Leviathan, the Vestige is brought forth into the world.

The Origin's Vestige fights alongside the Summoner, unlocking the full potential of their covenant. A Summoner cannot take the Pact of the Chain.

Summoning

As an action, you magically summon a Vestige, a fragment of a magical being that you have entered into a covenant with. The vestige is friendly to you and your companions and obeys your commands. Choose its stat block— Demi-Ifrit, Demi-Garuda, or Demi-Leviathan—which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. This vestige is a manifestation of the fragment of power bestowed upon you by the Origin, and it shares its consciousness with its respective Origin.

In combat, the vestige acts during your turn. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. You can also sacrifice one of your attacks when you take the Attack action to command the vestige to take the Attack action. If you are incapacitated, the vestige can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge.

If the vestige has died within the last hour, you can use your action to touch it and expend a spell slot. The vestige returns to life after 1 minute with all its hit points restored. One hour after the vestige has died, its physical form vanishes.

Once you have summoned a Vestige, you can't summon a different vestige until you finish a short or long rest. The vestige appears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you, and you choose its stat block. If you already have a vestige from this feature, it vanishes when the new vestige appears. The vestige also vanishes if you die.

Pact-Bearer

You can form a number of covenants equal to your Proficiency Bonus. A covenant is formed through a ritual between a Summoner and a willing Origin that takes place over 1 hour and grants access to the Origin's Vestige.

Multiple Summoners can enter a covenant with the same Origin. An Origin may require that you perform a task or undergo a trial before it will agree to enter a covenant.

Additionally, you learn the Find Familiar spell, which you can cast as a ritual with no material costs.

Because of the covenant between an Origin and a Summoner, you cannot take the Pact of the Chain.

Boost

At 6th level, the vestige's attacks now count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage. Additionally, the vestige you summon can be one size larger than normal, which grants the vestige temporary hit points equal to your Warlock level.

Contact Covenant

Also at 6th level, you gain the ability to communicate telepathically with your Vestige to a range of 1 mile, and with any Origin that you have entered into a covenant with to an unlimited range.

Linked Step

At 10th level, you learn the Dimension Door spell, which doesn't count against your number of warlock spells known, and can be cast without spending a spell slot. Additionally, the secondary target for this spell is limited to your vestige only, with no size restrictions, and the secondary target range is extended to 60 feet. Once you have used this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.

Greater Boost

At 14th level, the vestige you summon can be two sizes larger than normal, which grants the vestige temporary hit points equal to twice your Warlock level, and increases the reach of its attacks by 5 feet. Additionally, while you and your vestige are within 60 feet, you both gain Magic Resistance (advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects).
