# Oath of Steam ***S0oot-blackened, a knight shovels coal into a fire and stirs it until the great machine comes to life with sounds of hissing, whirring and thumping. "Full Steam ahead!" a group of warriors shout as they ready their blades to drive away a group of militant druids blocking their path - these knights are guarding what vaguely resembles a mighty iron horse with thick black smoke billowing from its chimney.*** Paladins following the Oath of Steam have dedicated themselves to progress, to mechanizing the world with the power of steam - they have proclaimed the start of a new era: the Age of Steam. Wether they are travelers frustrated by slow and bumpy rides in horse-drawn carriages, farmers growing tired of swinging scythes and driving oxen to tow the plough or industrialists and factory bosses seeking to replace unreliable, revolting workers with machines that cannot speak and cannot go on strike - they all share their desire for change. Machines are always reliable, work around the clock and never grow tired. And, probably the most important aspect: machines are much cheaper than humanoid workers. Why must one be a skilled warrior to achieve that some might ask - unfortunately not everyone believes in progress and in machines. Paladins of the Oath of Steam often find themselves in confrontations with militant druids and other people wanting the world to remain as it is, people who are wary of environmental damage caused by the machines' exhaust plumes and people who are afraid of losing their jobs. And they know that only when they stand strong and valiant, just like the machines they build, they will see their vision of a world powered by steam come true. \columnbreak
#### Tenets of the Oath of Steam The tenets of the Oath of Steam vary by paladin and profession - a farmer wanting to replace their oxen with a steam engine to tow the plough likely has a different idea of the oath than an industrialist seeking to replace their factory workers. The base principle of the tenets is simple: you want to see the world powered by steam, you want to achieve technological progress no matter the environmental impact and you want to deal with those that stand in your way. * ***Full Steam ahead!*** Spread the word of the Age of Steam, vehemently and with positivity. Prepare yet unprepared folks for the new age and introduce them to the wonders they can achieve with the power of steam. * ***Progress, not Regress!*** Think forward, think of what you can achieve with the power of steam. Don't let anyone hold progress back, it'd only cost you time and money. A world without progress cannot evolve. * ***Exploit Resources!*** The world belongs to you and everyone, so - in the name of progress - use what she provides. Metal is there to be worked into boilers, pistons and gears, and trees and coal are there to fuel the engines and the forges - and the atmosphere is so vast, you can safely blow exhaust up into it. #### Level 3: Heavy Machinery Adept You gain Expertise with Smith's Tools. You can use a set of Smith's Tools as a spellcasting focus for your paladin spells. \pagebreakNum #### Level 3: Oath of Steam Spells You gain the following oath spells at the paladin levels listed. | Paladin Level | Spells | |:----:|:-------------| | 3rd | *fog cloud, longstrider* | | 5th | *heat metal, skywrite* | | 9th | *fireball, Ashardalon's stride* | 13th | *guardian of faith, summon construct* | | 17th | *cloudkill, holy weapon* | #### Level 3: The Power of Steam When you take the Attack action, you can expend one use of your Channel Divinity to draw upon the power of steam. When you do so, your armor and weapon transform into mechanized versions of themselves, full of whirring gears, thumping pistons and hissing valves. For 10 minutes or until you use this feature again, you gain the following benefits: * Your weapon attacks deal extra fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier. * When you cast Divine Smite, you may deal Fire damage instead of Radiant damage. When you do so, the target gains the Burning condition. * When you hit with your weapon, you can activate the Topple mastery property in addition to a different mastery property you're using with that weapon. * You have Advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. * Your carry capacity is quadrupled. You can end this effect early (no action required). This effect also ends if you aren't wearing the armor. #### Level 7: Aura of Progress You and your allies have Immunity to the *Restrained* condition as well as Resistance to Cold damage while inside your Aura of Protection. If your Aura moves into the space of a *Restrained* ally, the condition ends for them immediately. #### Level 7: The Iron Horse Regular horses are old-fashioned and deserve to be replaced by steam engines. When you cast Find Steed, your faithful steed is of the Construct type and has immunity to the *Charmed* and *Frightened* conditions as well as Immunity to Psychic and Poison damage. #### Level 15: Critical Pressure When you make a weapon attack and roll a 20 on the attack roll, you can release a blast of steam, forcing all enemies within your Aura of Protection to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, a creature gains the *Prone* condition and is *Blinded* until the start of your next turn. #### Level 20: Full Steam Ahead As a bonus action, you can transform yourself into a paragon of mechanization and industrialization. When you do so, you gain the following benefits for 10 minutes. Once you have used this feature, you can't use it again until you have finished a short or long rest. * ***Iron Colossus***. Your size increases to Huge, your creature type changes to Construct and you are immune to all conditions. You ignore difficult terrain and critical hits count as normal hits against you. * ***Articulated Engine***. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make an additional attack. * ***Roaring Furnace***. Whenever an enemy starts its turn within your Aura of Protection, it takes fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier. Moreover, you and your allies have Immunity to cold damage while in your Aura of Protection.
