# Aegis of the Shadows ## *Wondrous Item (Artifact), requires attunement*
## The *Aegis of the Shadows* is a masterfully crafted gauntlet that seamlessly merges divine craftsmanship and subtle artifice. Made from dark steel adorned with faint, glowing golden etchings, the artifact pulses with a soft, rhythmic light, symbolizing its duality of purpose: protection and subterfuge. --- ### Properties #### Blessing of Light and Shadow - While attuned to this artifact, you gain a +1 bonus to AC and saving throws. - You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, up to 120 feet. #### Dual Purpose Activation Once per day, you may choose one: - **Divine Shield (1/day):** As a bonus action, invoke the Aegis’s protective power. For the next minute, you and up to two allies within 30 feet gain +2 AC and resistance to all damage types. - **Shrouding Cloak (1/day):** As a bonus action, summon a veil of shadow around yourself. For the next minute, you become invisible, and your movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks. #### Shadow Step *(Recharge 6)* As a bonus action, teleport to an unoccupied space you can see within 30 feet. You leave behind a faint illusionary shadow that remains for one round, distracting enemies. Enemies within 5 feet of the shadow must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on attacks against creatures other than the shadow until the start of your next turn. \columnbreak #### Holy Retribution *(Reaction)* When an enemy within 5 feet of you hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to channel the artifact’s power. The attacker must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 radiant damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one. If the enemy is a fiend or undead, it has disadvantage on the saving throw, and the damage increases to 6d6. #### Hidden Utility The gauntlet has built-in compartments that can hold up to three small items (such as thieves’ tools, a vial of holy water, or a potion). These items can be retrieved or replaced as a free action on your turn. --- ### Attunement The *Aegis of the Shadows* requires attunement by a creature with a balance of physical prowess and mental acuity. Rogues, Paladins, Rangers, and Fighters may find its use intuitive, but any class that values strategy and adaptability can benefit. --- ### Lore The *Aegis of the Shadows* was forged by a forgotten order of holy assassins who sought to blend the divine radiance of their celestial patrons with the cunning needed to combat the forces of darkness. Its creation is said to have required the blessing of a god of light and a god of trickery, embodying the ultimate balance of protection and subterfuge. --- ### Notes DMs may customize the Aegis to fit their campaigns, including changes to the activation limits or the nature of its divine origins.
