## Ranger Conclave ### {subclass-name} The Ashwalker Conclave is for rangers who patrol magma-scarred lands, intent on protecting the land while it restores itself. They learn to call upon the volcano's own power, summoning fire and stone, even as they tend to the devastation left behind. Ashwalkers know the potential opened up in the wake of destruction, and seek to guard that delicate hope. Ashwalkers by necessity live far from settled civilization; a burnt-out village might be the nearest an ashwalker regularly comes to other people. Ashwalkers may be more likely to have a personal connection to the blasted landscapes they inhabit, but otherwise their backgrounds and motivations may vary. While the conclave's creed generally involves reviving nature, an evil ashwalker might seek simply to stake their claim to a defensible territory. #### {subclass-name} Conclave Features | Ranger Level | Features | |:---:|:-----------| | 3rd | Ashwalker Spells, Wasteland Walker, Magmatic Strike | | 7th | Pyroclastic Armor | | 11th | Lava Flow | | 15th | New Shoots | \columnbreak
#### {subclass-name} Spells Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the table below. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know. | Ranger Level | Spells | |:---:|:-----------| | 3rd | *earth rumble^SDS^* | | 5th | *fiery blade^SDS^* | | 9th | *magma spike^S^* | | 13th | *cinder cloud^S^* | | 17th | *pyroclastic lance^K^* | #### Wasteland Walker When you join the {subclass-name} conclave at 3rd level, you learn the skills required to survive in a lava-choked landscape. You can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes, and you can move across lava without suffering harm as long as you don't end your movement on it. #### Magmatic Strike Also at 3rd level, you learn to harness the volcano's power. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with an attack, you can choose to deal 1d4 bonus fire and 1d4 bonus bludgeoning damage. At level 11, your Magmatic Strike changes, and always deals 1d6 fire and 1d6 bludgeoning damage. \pagebreakNum #### Pyroclastic Armor At 7th level, you can summon up volcanic rock to protect you. You can conjure this magmatic armor as a bonus action. While armored in this way, you gain a +2 bonus to your AC, but your speed is reduced by 10 feet. When a creature within 5 feet hits you with an attack, your armor explodes, dealing 1d4 fire and 1d4 bludgeoning damage to it. The armor falls away after withstanding a number of hits equal to your Wisdom modifier or after 10 minutes, whichever happens first. You can summon this armor once, regaining its use after a short or long rest. #### Lava Flow At 11th level, you can choose to leave a trail of lava behind when you run. As a bonus action, you can ignite your feet. Every space you move through on your turn is covered in lava. A creature starting its turn on this lava or moving through it on its turn takes 3d10 fire damage. The lava dissipates at the end of your next turn. You can lay a lava trail in this way a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, regaining all uses after finishing a long rest. > Note that most creatures are able to jump over a 5-foot lava stream, even without a running start; trapping something behind lava streams requires a considerable effort. #### New Shoots At 15th level, you can protect creatures that barely cling to life, in the same way you protect the waste's new growth. As a reaction when a creature within 30 feet takes damage that would reduce it to 0 hit points, you can transfer the damage to yourself. The target takes no damage, and you suffer the damage it would have. No other effects are transferred. ### {subclass-name} Conclave quirks The following are some optional quirks for a player of this subclass to choose from. | d6 | Quirk | |:---:|:-----------| | 1 | You like to stop and say a little prayer at new growth. | | 2 | Your veins glow a reddish-orange when you call upon your powers. | | 3 | You shout all the time, just to be heard over the volcanoes. | | 4 | Your clothing is all singed and scorched. | | 5 | You get jumpy in peaceful places. | | 6 | You decorate your equipment with obsidian shards. | \columnbreak ## Appendix 1: Spells #### Cinder Cloud *4th-level conjuration* ___ - **Classes:** Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard - **Casting Time:** 1 action - **Range:** 120 feet - **Components:** V, S - **Duration:** Concentration, up to 1 minute ___ You create a 20-foot radius sphere of burning-hot ash, centered on a point you can see within range. The sphere spreads around corners, and its area is heavily obscured. It lasts for the duration or until a wind of moderate or greater speed (at least 10 miles per hour) disperses it. When a creature starts its turn in the cloud, it must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, it takes 5d6 fire damage and is blinded until the start of its next turn. On a success, it takes half as much damage and suffers no other effects. ***At Higher Levels.*** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the radius of the cloud increases by 5 feet for each slot level above 4th. #### Earth Rumble *1st-level transmutation* ___ - **Classes:** Bard, Druid, Sorcerer, Wizard - **Casting Time:** 1 action - **Range:** Self (10-foot radius) - **Components:** V, S - **Duration:** Instantaneous ___ You cause the ground immediately around you to shake and roll. Each other creature within 10 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, a target takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone. On a success, a target takes half as much damage and isn’t knocked prone. If the terrain is dirt or stone, it becomes difficult terrain for creatures other than you for the next hour. ***At Higher Levels.*** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 1st, and the radius increases by 5 feet for every two slot levels above 1st. \pagebreakNum #### Fiery Blade *2nd-level evocation* ___ - **Classes:** Druid - **Casting Time:** 1 bonus action - **Range:** Self - **Components:** V, S, M (one flake of dried chili pepper) - **Duration:** Concentration, up to 1 minute ___ You evoke a fiery blade in your free hand. The blade is similar in size and shape to a scimitar, and it lasts for the duration. It counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient, and emits bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. It deals 2d6 fire damage on a hit and has the finesse, light, and thrown properties (range 20/60). If you hit a flammable creature or object, it ignites, taking 1d6 fire damage at the start of each of its turns until a creature uses its action to douse the flames on itself or another creature. If you drop the weapon or throw it, it dissipates at the end of the turn. Thereafter, while the spell persists, you can use a bonus action to cause the blade to reappear in your hand. ***At Higher Levels.*** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the blade's damage increases by 1d6 and the ignite damage by 1d6 for every two slot levels above 2nd. #### Magma Spike *3rd-level transmutation* ___ - **Classes:** Druid, Sorcerer - **Casting Time:** 1 action - **Range:** 120 feet - **Components:** V, S - **Duration:** Instantaneous ___ You haul a spike of red-hot magma up from the ground, impaling a creature you can see within range. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, it takes 2d6 fire and 2d6 piercing damage, and is impaled and restrained if it is Large or smaller. On a success, it takes half as much damage and suffers no other effects. An impaled target takes 1d6 fire damage at the end of each of its turns. The target can repeat its saving throw at the end of each of its turns, freeing itself on a success. #### Pyroclastic Lance *5th-level conjuration* ___ - **Classes:** Sorcerer, Wizard - **Casting Time:** 1 action - **Range:** 120 feet - **Components:** V, S - **Duration:** Instantaneous ___ You conjure a lance of blazing lava and hurl it at a creature you can see within range. Make a ranged spell attack. On a hit, the target takes 8d6 fire damage. Hit or miss, the lance then explodes in a 10-foot radius sphere of pyroclastic ash centered on the target. The ash lasts until the start of your next turn, and its area is heavily obscured. Any creature starting its turn within the ash cloud must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take 4d6 fire damage and be blinded until the start of its next turn. ***At Higher Levels.*** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the initial damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 5th. \columnbreak ## Change Log #### v{current-version} * Simplified Magmatic Strike * Added 10m limit to Pyroclastic Armor #### v0.1 * Rough Draft > ##### Credits & References: > * {subclass-name} Conclave created by [somanyrobots](https://www.somanyrobots.com "somanyrobots.com") > [Discord](https://discord.gg/6p6DqCxTTw "Discord") | [Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/somanyrobots "patreon.com/somanyrobots") >___ > ##### Spells > * Earth Rumble & Fiery Blade by Omega Ankh and somanyrobots > * Cinder Cloud & Magma Spike by somanyrobots > * Pyroclastic Lance by KibblesTasty > ___ > ##### Art > Volcanic Rush, by Ryan Barger © Wizards of the Coast LLC > > ___ > ##### Licensing > Includes spells from Spells That Don't Suck by Omega Ankh and somanyrobots, which is licensed [CC-BY](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode "CC-BY") and available [here](https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-NR0OWlW60yv2EfA3qQp "Spells That Don't Suck"). > ___ > Includes spells from Kibbles' Casting Compendium 2.0 by KibblesTasty Homebrew LLC, which is licensed CC-BY and available [here](https://www.kthomebrew.com/krd "KibblesTasty KRD"). > ___ > ##### Fan Content Policy > > * This work is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Fan Content Policy.
