### Power Neutral Weapon Masteries This is a pretty simple idea. What could weapon masteries be if they were not intended to power creep, and wanted to remain roughly power neutral just as expanded options that were relatively balanced in place of making an attack. This is a simple rewrite for people that want Weapon Masteries for systems not otherwise designed for them, and don't want to overload the system. ___ **Batter.** When you make a melee weapon attack with a weapon the Batter property, you can opt to forgo making an attack roll and treat it as if you rolled a 10 (adding your proficiency and modifier to that as normal). If the attack would hit, it deals half the damage it would normally have dealt. ___ **Cleave.** When you make a melee weapon attack with weapon with the Cleave property, you can attack a second adjacent target within range. On a hit, both targets takes half the damage roll of the weapon. ___ **Expose.** If you could otherwise attack a target creature with a weapon with the Expose property you can forgo making an attack with this weapon against a target to give advantage to the next attack roll made against that target before the end of your next turn. ___ **Parry.** When you hit an attack with a weapon with the Parry property, you can forgo dealing damage to gain temporary hit points equal to the damage roll. These temporary hit points expire at the start of your next turn. ___ **Push.** When you make an attack with a weapon with the Push property, you can forgo dealing damage to turn the attack into an attempt to shove the target 5 feet. When shoving this way you do not need a free hand and use the attack roll in place of the normal check (the target still contests it as normal). ___ **Topple.** When you make an attack with a weapon with the Topple property, you can forgo dealing damage to turn the attack in attempt to shove the target prone. When shoving this way you do not need a free hand and use the attack roll in place of the normal check (the target still contests it as normal). > ##### Push & Topple > While you can already shove a creature in combat (achieving much of what these achieve), being able to use your weapon for it will be an advantage in many cases, since there are modifiers and advantage that apply to attacks that wouldn't normally apply to a contested shove check. > > Not that's amazing, but remember, these are intended to be power neutral or roughly so. ___ **Quick.** You can draw or sheath a weapon with the Quick property a number of times on your turn equal to your Dexterity modifier (minimum 1) without needing to spend any action or object interaction. > ##### Ranged Weapons > The benefit of ranged weapons are that you can use them at range. Adding the ability to push or slow creatures at range is not something that can be done in a power neutral manner. #### Weapon Table The following are the weapon masteries received by each weapon. As these are power neutral alternatives to attacking, you can perform a weapon mastery as long as you have proficiency with the weapon. ##### Weapon Mastery Table | Weapon | Masteries | |:-------|:----------| | Club | Batter | | Dagger | Quick | | Greatclub | Batter | | Handaxe | Cleave | | Javelin | Quick | | Light Hammer | Batter | | Mace | Push | | Quarterstaff | Topple | | Sickle | Cleave | | Spear | Expose | | Weapon | Masteries | |:-------|:----------| | Battleaxe | Batter, Cleave | | Flail | Expose, Topple | | Glaive | Cleave, Topple | Greataxe | Cleave, Topple | | Greatsword | Cleave, Parry | | Halbred | Cleave, Push | Lance | Push, Topple | | Longsword | Expose, Parry | | Maul | Batter, Push | | Morningstar | Batter, Expose | | Pike | Expose, Push | | Rapier | Expose, Parry | | Scimitar | Expose, Cleave | | Shortsword | Expose, Parry | Trident | Parry, Push | | War Pick | Batter, Expose | | Warhammer | Batter, Push | | Whip | Expose, Topple |
