# Way of the Silken Wind Monk > ##### Elegant Dancer > You have been trained to perform in the ancient style of silk-dancing using chains, silks, string, or a similar material. Regardless, you are an eloquent fighter and performer. Maybe you have silks passed down from an ancestor, or are trained in the ability to use whatever is nearby. No matter the material, you feel most comfortable when wrapped in your ribbons. These can take a variety of forms. You may determine what this form is, or by rolling on the Ribbon Medium table. | d6 | Ribbon Medium | |:---:|:---------:| | 1 | Long streams of teal silk that flow like the wind. | | 2 | Barbed chains that look fresh with the blood of a prisoner. | | 3 | Braided strands of yarn that weave to form beautiful needlework. | | 4 | Marionette strings that appear to control your movements. | | 5 | A long rope that winds its way around your body. | | 6 | A set of pristine silver Kamas that radiate justice. ### Performative Link *3rd-level Way of the Silken Wind feature* At 3rd level, you gain the ability to form a spiritual connection with a ribbon, chain, rope, string, or similar object (hereby referred to as “ribbon”). You may spend 1 ki point and touch a ribbon for 1 minute to bond it. While bonded, ribbons gain the following benefits: * You can mentally manipulate this ribbon like a limb within 15 ft. of you and you cannot be disarmed of it against your will. This range extends to 30 feet at 11th level, and 60 feet at 17th level. * You can magically change the length of your ribbon from 1 to 15 feet long. * The carrying capacity of these ribbons is a number of pounds equal to (5 x Wisdom score x amount of ribbons being used for the action). * When you make an Athletics or Performance check using your ribbons, you may use your Dexterity, instead of Strength or Charisma, when calculating your bonus. * If the ribbon is within 50 feet of you and not held in place, you may mentally command it fly to your space. You can have a number of bonded ribbons equal to 2 + your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 3). The bond lasts until you die, or until you attempt to bond another ribbon past your maximum. You may use these ribbons to make unarmed strikes, out to a range of 15 feet. You can also hit a target up to 30 feet away, but if it is farther than 15 feet away, you make the attack at disadvantage. The damage type of your attack may be piercing, bludgeoning, or slashing, depending on the design of the object. When you make a Shove attack, you can push the creature 5 feet in any direction. You may also attempt to Disarm the target creature. When you hit with an attack against a creature or object, you may attempt to grapple them as part of the same attack by spending 1 ki point (you may also grapple them normally using an Unarmed Strike). This ribbon detaches from you and completely wraps around the creature. Instead of the normal grappling rules, the creature must make an Acrobatics or Athletics check against your Ribbon DC to avoid being grappled. * If you attempt to grapple a creature larger than you, you must expend an additional ribbon for each size category that it is larger. For example, if you are a Medium creature attempting to grapple a Large creature, it would require two free ribbons to do so. * When you have a creature grappled, you may, as attack with another ribbon, attempt to restrain them or knock them prone. They must make an Athletics or Acrobatics check, contested by your Athletics check. If you succeed, the creature becomes restrained or prone until they are no longer grappled. It requires an additional ribbon to restrain a creature. As an unarmed strike, you can attempt to attach the ribbons to objects within 30 feet. To do so, make a DC 14 Athletics check. If you are successful, the ribbon secures itself to the object and magically extends to fill the distance. If the object is heavier than you, you may pull yourself up to 30 feet closer to it. If the object is lighter than you, you may pull it up to 30 feet towards you. Your Ribbon DC equals 10 + Wisdom Modifier + Athletics Modifier. \pagebreak ### Superior Connection *6th-level Way of the Silken Wind feature* You become more powerful at manipulating your ribbons as extensions of yourself. You gain proficiency in Performance and Athletics checks when using your ribbons. If you already have proficiency, you instead gain expertise in those skills. You develop a stronger spiritual connection with your ribbons. At the beginning of your turn, you may awaken one or more ribbons for 10 minutes. You may do this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You may also spend 1 ki point to awaken them. While in this state, they have the following benefits: * You may attack any creature you have grappled within 60 feet of you. The attack originates from the ribbon that is grappling the creature. Starting at 11th level, you may also attack any creature that is within 5 feet of the grappled creature. * You may ignore immunity to the grappled condition, if your ribbons are able to hold that creature’s form in place. * Creatures that you have grappled date 1d6 bludgeoning damage at the start of each of your turns. * You may instead bestow gifts onto others. At the start of your turn, you can distribute those ribbons to any amount of creatures within 30 feet of you (including yourself). Each ribbon gives a bonus of +1 to your Armor Class. * Your movement speed is increased by 5 feet for every ribbon around you. ### Exalted Restraint *11th-level Way of the Silken Wind feature* You have learned how to use your ribbons to express your will. You no longer have disadvantage when making unarmed strikes against creature or objects up to 30 feet away from you. Your awakened ribbons gain the following features: * You can attack any creature that is within 5 feet of any of your ribbons, even if they are protecting or grappling another creature or item. You may also make opportunity attacks from these ribbons, which may only be used to attempt to grapple. * You may now grapple up to 2 creatures with one ribbon if the creatures are within 5 feet of each other. * When you initially grapple a creature, you may make opposing Athletics check. On a success, you can choose to either pull them up to 15 feet towards you, or pull yourself up to 15 feet towards them. * When a ribbon is protecting a creature or object, they also gain a +1 bonus to their saving throws for each ribbon assigned to them. As an action, you can manifest your judgement to others. You may spend 2-10 ki points as an action to manifest spiritual ribbons in a radius around you of 10 feet for every 2 ki points spent. Every creature that you choose within that area has to make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed saving throw, they take 4d6 bludgeoning damage, and they are grappled by spiritual awakened ribbons for 1 minute or until they make a successful Acrobats (Dexterity) or Athletics (Strength) check against your Ribbon DC. On a successful check, the creature takes half damage and is not grappled. You may, as an action on future turns while this effect is active, make one attack against every creature that is grappled by you. You may also choose to forego the bludgeoning damage when you take this action. ### Silken Mastery *17th-level Way of the Silken Wind feature* Your connection to your ribbons is now impermeable. Your ribbons now remain awakened until you end it, or you die. Additionally, the carrying capacity of your ribbons is doubled. Your range for the ribbons extends to 60 feet. While they are within 60 feet of you, you can see through your ribbons with blindsight out to a range of 15 feet. While you have one or more ribbons within 5 feet of you, you gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover. You may also push grappled creatures up to 20 feet each turn as part of an attack, and you can move them in any direction (including into the air, where they are held aloft by your ribbons).
