Ferrous Dragonborn

The Order of Cold Ferrous is a sect of Draken, a collection of kingdoms that answer to the main draconic kingdom. Many dragonborn born in these kingdoms eventually dream of being part of the kingdoms and contribute to their home.

The Ferrous Dragons, a heirachy of the 5 remaining Ferrous dragons - Iron, chrome, Cobalt, Tungsten, Nickle - share the rule of the nation. Much like other Dragonborn, born and decended from their chromatic, metallic, and gem brethen, Ferrous dragons are actually much more closely tied to their mortal creations than the others.

Afterall, a house divived is set to fall. In the rebellion of dragonborn against their dragon masters, Ferrous set out to allow order for their creations to repair it. Though, not truely altrustic.

They need subjects, they need knights, advisors, tacticians, scouts, things to do that a large dragon can't do.

Traits

Type. You are a Humanoid.

Size. You are Medium.

Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Ferrous Ancestry. You trace your ancestry to a Ferrous Dragon, granting you a special magical affinity. Choose one type of dragon from the Ferrous Ancestry table. This determines the damage type for your other traits as shown in the table.

Dragon Primary Dragon Type Secondary Dragon Type
Iron Fire Piercing
Chrome Cold Radiant
Cobolt Force Poison
Tungsten Bludgeoning Fire
Nickle Acid Slashing

Breath Weapon. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in a 15ft cone with your primary dragon type, or focus to shoot it in a 30ft line that is 5 feet wide of your secondary type.

Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 + your proficiency bonus damage damage of the type associated with your Ferrous Ancestry. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage.

This damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th level (3d6), 11th level (4d6), and 17th level (5d6). You can use your Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Reflective Ferrous Scales. At 5th level, you learn to control the density of your scales to heighten your defenses. You can use a bonus action to enter a stance of heightened of hardened defense gain the following:

  • Gain resistances to both your dragon types.
  • Your retractable claws grow in strength, your unarmed strikes increase one die stage (d4-> d6-> d8-> d10-> d12) and deal damage of your secondary dragon type instead.

This form lasts 1 minute or until you are incapincated.

Part of the Hierarchy, For the Kingdom

The Ferrous Dragons follow a strict heirarchy. Their birth often places them, ordered top to bottom in the Ferrous Chart. Many outsiders would see this as unfair, but this places a opportunity for a character playing a Ferrous Dragonborn with a knight or noble background could factor in their story. Do they embrace their place in the hierarchy or they wish to ascend it? Were they born outside the nation and grew up on different values?
