Spidercoon

Skulking Hoardgin Bunch

Skittering on eight nimble legs and cloaked in shadows, the Spidercoon is a curious and cunning hybrid of spider and raccoon, known as much for its thievery as for its eerie webbed lairs. Native to the Feywild, these creatures were originally creations of the Archfey Relkath of the Infinite Branches, intended to serve as agile caretakers of his enchanted groves.

But the Spidercoon’s mischievous nature could not be tamed. One legend tells of a particularly clever specimen who stole a relic of planar travel from Relkath himself—an act of cunning that granted its kind the means to slip into the Material Plane. Since then, Spidercoons have been spotted in the deep woods and hidden glades of the Moonshae Isles, where their strange presence has baffled scholars and alarmed adventurers.

They spin dense, sticky webs not just to ensnare prey, but to strip victims of shiny trinkets and magical items—hoarding them deep within their silk-wrapped dens. Though small, a Spidercoon is not to be underestimated. Where one is found, more are often nearby... watching, waiting, and plotting their next theft.

Swarms

Sometimes your players may wonder into these creatures lairs, in that case you would probably benefit from a swarm version of the statblock.

Swarm Features

To turn this statblock into a swarm, I would sugets the following changes:

  • +1 AC
  • Change HP to 95
  • Resistence to Bludgeoning, Piercing and Slashing damage
  • Imunitie to Charmed, Frightened, Grappled, Paralyzed, Petrified, Prone, Restrained and Stunned condition
  • Bite deals 3d8+3 piercing or 3d6+3 if the swarm is Bloodied.

  • Spider Climb. The Spidercoon can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
  • Web Sense. While in contact with a web, the Spidercoon knows the exact location of any other creature in contact with the same web.
  • Web Walker. The Spidercoon ignores movement restrictions caused by webbing.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 11 Constitution saving throw, taking 9 (2d8) poison damage and becoming poisoned on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Web (Recharge 5-6). Dexterity Saving Throw: DC 13, one creature the spider can see within 60 feet. Failure: The target has the Restrained condition until the web is destroyed (AC 10; HP 5; Vulnerability to Fire damage; Immunity to Poison and Psychic damage).


Bonus Actions

Steal. As a Bonus Action, the Spidercoon can attempt to steal an item from a poisoned or restrain target. The Spidercoon must sussed on a Sleight of Hand (Dexterity) check against the target AC, on a success, the DM chose an item the Spidercoon takes from the creature possession.
