## Arcane Order ### Order of {subclass-name} The Order of Mastery is for wizards who are true experts of the arcane. Mastery wizards, true to their name, strive to learn every intricate detail of their incantations, able to control the smallest aspects of their spells. A mastery wizard is not interested in a broad base of knowledge; rather, they focus their formidable intellect on complete mastery of a few key spells. {subclass-name} wizards can come from any background; the only requirement is a capacity for near-obsessive focus. Similarly, they can come from any alignment, as the Order of Mastery is about an approach to arcane study rather than its applications. #### Order of {subclass-name} Features | Wizard Level | Feature | |:---:|:-----------| | 2nd | Expert Arcanist, Mastery Points, Specialized Spells | | 6th | Deliberate Preparation | | 10th | Cantrip Mastery | | 14th | Intensive Arcana | \columnbreak
#### Expert Arcanist At 2nd level, you focus your energies on magical study. You gain proficiency with Arcana, or another wizard skill of your choice if you're already proficient. Your proficiency bonus is doubled when you make Intelligence (Arcana) checks to study scrolls or spellbooks, or involving spells that you have in your spellbook. #### Mastery Points Also at 2nd level, you gain a pool of Mastery Points which you can use to augment your spellcasting. You start with 2 mastery points, and gain 1 additional point at 5th level, 9th level, 13th level, and 17th level. You recover all expended mastery points on a long rest, and you recover 1 mastery point when you use your Arcane Recovery. #### Specialized Spells Also at 2nd level, you narrow your studies, putting extra time into mastering a few key spells. You can designate one 1st-level spell you know as a specialized spell. When you cast a specialized spell, you can choose to expend mastery points to augment its effects. Select any number of the options below, spending 1 mastery point for each. * **Range.** You can double the spell's range. * **Duration.** You can double the spell's duration. * **Damage.** You can reroll a number of the spell's damage dice up to your Intelligence modifier. You must use the new rolls. \pagebreakNum * **Shape.** You can increase the length of a cone spell by up to 10 feet or the length of a line spell by up to 20 feet. You can increase the radius of a sphere, disc, or circle spell, or the side length of a square or cube spell by 5 feet. When you gain the ability to cast spells at a new spell level, you can designate one spell at that level as a specialized spell. When you gain a level in this class, you can choose to replace one of your specialized spells with a different spell of the same level that is in your spellbook. #### Deliberate Preparation At 6th level, you learn techniques for enhancing your spells even further, at the cost of a little extra study. When you finish a long rest, you can study one of your Specialized Spells over a period equal to 10 minutes times the spell's level. The next time you cast that spell, you can choose one of the following effects: * You can cast the spell as if expending a spell slot one level higher. * You can force one target of the spell to save against it with disadvantage. * You can grant one target of the spell a bonus to its next saving throw equal to half your wizard level. * Attempts to *counterspell* or *dispel magic* against the spell are made with disadvantage. Your Deliberate Preparation (and its effect on other creatures) fades if you have not used it by the next time you finish a long rest. #### Cantrip Mastery At 10th level, your exceptional control of your spells extends to your cantrips as well. You can treat every cantrip you know as a Specialized Spell. When you cast a cantrip, you can apply one effect of Specialized Spells without spending a Mastery Point on it. #### Intensive Arcana At 14th level, you have further honed your mastery over your chosen spells. Anytime you spend a mastery point, you can choose for one creature affected by the spell to either take 2d6 bonus force damage or gain 2d6 temporary hit points. \columnbreak ### Order of {subclass-name} quirks The following are some optional quirks for a player of this subclass to choose from. | d6 | Quirk | |:---:|:-----------| | 1 | The air crackles when you cast your specialized spells. | | 2 | You dismiss more generalist wizards as mere dabblers. | | 3 | You grimace in distaste whenever you wind up casting a spell you dislike. | | 4 | You dream of getting a spell named after you. | | 5 | You have a heart tattoo of your favorite archmage's name. | | 6 | You quest to find a lost tome of "metamagic" spells. | \pagebreakNum ## Change Log #### v{current-version} * Tweak to Cantrip Mastery * Tweaks to Specialized Spells #### v0.3 * Language cleanup & typo fixes #### v0.2 * Removed Concentration option for Specialized Spells #### v0.1 * Rough Draft \columnbreak > ##### Credits & References: > Order of {subclass-name} created by [somanyrobots](https://www.somanyrobots.com "somanyrobots.com") > [Discord](https://discord.gg/6p6DqCxTTw "Discord") | [Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/somanyrobots "patreon.com/somanyrobots") > ___ > ##### Art > Teferi's Time Twist, by Ralph Horsley © Wizards of the Coast LLC > ___ > ##### Background Image Stains > [Jared Ondricek](https://watercolors.giantsoup.com/) > ___ > ##### License > © 2025 somanyrobots, [CC BY-NC 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.0/) > ___ > ##### Fan Content Policy > > This work is unofficial Fan Content permitted under the Fan Content Policy.
