An Intellect Aflame
The path of the Ardent Mind is one walked within one's own thoughts. Barbarians on this path have been touched by the Far Realms or the plane of dreams, or perhaps studied forgotten tomes and found a way to unlock latent psionic abilities. The rage of a barbarian of the Ardent Mind is a rage of mental strength, a burning within the brain which can reach out and touch anyone in the deepest part of their psyches. They are resilient fighters and scholars who can blow minds as easily as they can bash in skulls.
Subclass Features
A Mind Unleashed
3rd level Path of the Ardent Mind feature
Your psychic augmentations empower and defend you. You gain resistance to psychic damage and proficiency in two skills from: Arcana, History, Investigation, Nature, or Religion. Alternately, you can gain proficiency in one of the listed skills and with a tool of your choice.
Additionally, while you are not wearing any armor, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Intelligence modifier + your Constitution modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.
Finally, when you attack recklessly, you can add your Intelligence modifier to your attack and damage rolls.
Psionic Scream
3rd level Path of the Ardent Mind feature
You can emit a wave of psychic force, overwhelming your foes. When you enter your rage, creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you must make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failure, any creature affected takes 2d4 psychic damage and can't take reactions until the start of its next turn.
The saving throw DC for this feature equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.
At 10th level, the psychic damage from this feature increases to 4d4.
A Mind Expanded
6th level Path of the Ardent Mind feature
Your intellect increases and you are able to reach into the minds of others. Choose two of your skill proficiencies, or one of your skill proficiencies and your proficiency with one type of tools. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies.
Additionally, you gain the message cantrip, and can cast detect thoughts at will while not raging. When you cast these spells, they require no verbal, somatic, or material components. Your spellcasting ability for these spells is Intelligence.
A Mind Fortified
10th level Path of the Ardent Mind feature
You are protected from psionic assaults. While raging, you have immunity to psychic damage, and advantage on all Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws.
Psionic Storm
14th level Path of the Ardent Mind feature
Once on each of your turns when you take the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with a use of the Psionic Scream feature granted by this class.
Additionally, when a creature fails the saving throw against your Psychic Scream when you enter your rage, they are restrained until the end of their next turn.
