The Medium
Medium
The Medium is a conduit between the living and the
dead, a mortal that has bound a powerful undead entity
to their soul. The creature within loathes the living, its very presence is anathema to life, and its contempt for the living poisons your every step.
Soul Eater
1st-level Medium Rites Feature
Your abilities as a medium allow you to capture the spirits
of the dead. As a reaction, when a living creature that you
can see within 30 feet of you dies, you can bind its animating spirit. You can use the captured spirit in the following ways:
- You can consume a captured spirit to revitalize yourself. As an action you consume the spirit and roll a d6, gaining hit points equal to the result + your Constitution modifier. You also gain temporary hit points equal to the result.
- You can cause the spirit to manifest as a Haunt, which uses the stat block below. As an action, you summon the Haunt in an unoccupied space that you can see within
15 feet of you. The Haunt shares your turn in combat.
You can mentally command it to move, attack, and use
its reaction. The Haunt lasts for 1 minute, until it is destroyed, or until you use your action to dismiss it.
If you use your action to dismiss a Haunt, the animating spirit remains captured and it regains all its hit points.
You can have a maximum of one captured spirit. This increases to two at 6th-level, three at 10th-level, four at
14th-level, and lastly, to five at 18th-level.
Finally, when you attack with a supernatural strike,
you can choose to deal necrotic damage on hit.

Undead Form
3rd-level Medium Rites Feature
You can assume the form of the entity of death that you have bound. When you transform, you use the Wraith stat block above.
Resilient Haunts
6th-level Medium Rites Feature
When a Haunt is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw.
Soul Prison
6th-level Medium Rites Feature
Destruction no longer guarantees escape for the spirits you have bound. When a Haunt is reduced to 0 hit points, you
can use your reaction to dismiss it instead of allowing it
to be destroyed.
Additionally, while in your Remnant Form, you use a
bonus action to summon a Haunt, instead of an action.
Distracting Haunts
10th-level Medium Rites Feature
Your Haunts can torment and distract your foes. When a creature within 5 feet of a Haunt makes a saving throw, a single Haunt of your choice can use its reaction to roll a d4, subtracting the result from the target's roll.
Extinguish
10th-level Medium Rites Feature
Your bound remnants hatred for life leaks out. If a living creature starts its turn within 30 feet of you, you can attempt to snuff out its life (no action required). If that creature has
5 hit points or fewer, it dies instantly.
Spirit Communion
14th-level Medium Rites Feature
You can spend 10 minutes in communion with the spirit world, calling out to and capturing a restless spirit.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you complete a long rest.
Master of Death
18th-level Medium Rites Feature
Your remnants ability to command spirits is unparalleled. When you transform into your Remnant Form you gain additional captured spirits up to your maximum. These additional spirits escape when your transformation ends.
Additionally, while transformed, you can use your bonus action to summon two Haunts in unoccupied spaces that
you can see within 15 feet, provided that you have at least two unsummoned captured spirits.
