Ranger Conclave

Poisonlight Stalker

In terrible wastelands or in the ruins of lost civilizations, bold adventurers sometimes encounter the poisonlight. Blue or green in hue, bright or dim, this dreadful radiance can scorch the skin and rot the bones. The most courageous (or most foolish) seek to learn the poisonlight's source — and almost always irradiate themselves in the process, becoming doomed to a slow and painful death. But "almost always" is not "always". Poisonlight stalkers dedicate themselves to hunting and investigating this dreadful phenomenon, learning magics and techniques to mitigate and even harness its effects.

Poisonlight stalkers can come from any background — their principal qualification is a macabre interest in the terrible luminance. They are often outcasts or wanderers — the light's effects often produce scars or mutations which make social living difficult.

Wasteland Wanderer

When you join this conclave at 3rd level, you devote yourself to the study of poisonlight. When you roll any ability check involving poisonlight or its effects, you do so with advantage.

In addition, you automatically succeed on saving throws against spells on the Poisonlight Stalker spell list.

Poisonlight Strike

Also at 3rd level, you learn to channel the deadly light in your strikes. Once per turn when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can choose to emit a blast of poisonlight. The attack deals 2d4 bonus radiant damage, and the target must make a Constitution save against your spell save DC. On a failure, you choose one of the following effects to apply:

  • Its hit point maximum is reduced by the radiant damage dealt.
  • It suffers one level of exhaustion.
  • It is poisoned until the end of its next turn.

A creature can only suffer each of these effects once. After it finishes a long rest, any hit point reduction is removed and it can be suffer each effect of this ability again.

Radiation Resistance

At 7th level, you gain a measure of protection against the poisonlight's effects. You gain resistance to poison and radiant damage, and any time your hit point maximum would be reduced, you can ignore half the effect.

As an action, you can grant the same benefits to another creature. Once you do so, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

Gamma Shroud

At 11th level, you learn to summon a poisonlight mantle, emitting deadly light as you assault your foes. As a bonus action, you can wrap yourself in poisonlight for 1 minute. When a creature starts its turn within 10 feet of you, it immediately is affected as if hit with your Poisonlight Strike. You can use your Gamma Shroud a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, regaining all uses after finishing a long rest.

In addition, your Poisonlight Strike's bonus damage is increased to 3d4.

Atomic Blast

At 15th level, you can create your own poisonlight through a mighty eruption. As an action, you can create a 30-foot-radius radioactive explosion at a point you can see within 120 feet. Each creature within the area must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, it takes 8d4 fire and 8d4 radiant damage and has its hit point maximum reduced by the radiant damage dealt. On a success, it takes half as much damage and suffers no maximum hit point reduction.

For 1 year or until you use this ability again, the area of the blast continues to be wreathed in deadly radiation. A creature ending its turn in the area is affected as if hit with your Poisonlight Strike. Once you use this ability, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
