### Escalating Under normal circumstances, a being that is afflicted by a [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) effect takes a consistent amount of damage each round (e.g. the amount of [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) damage that they will take on the fifth round will be the same as the amount of [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) damage that they took on the second round). However, if that being is afflicted by a [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) effect that deals escalating damage, the amount of damage that they take each round will increase over time. More specifically, it will increase (at the beginning of each round) by an amount equal to its original amount. For example, if Morgiana the [sanguine sorcerer](https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-LWMZYORqW01dZkNhvm7) causes Zenon the [rogue](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/) to begin to [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) for 3 points of escalating damage each round, Zenon will take 3 points of [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) damage on the first round, 6 points of [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) damage on the second round, 9 points of [bleed](https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions/#TOC-Bleed) damage on the third round, etc.
