The Witch Class (D&D 5e)

Witch Covens

The Sky Coven

Witches of the Sky Coven value their personal freedom and autonomy more highly than anything else, even their lives. These creatures seem to hardly even be capable of lies or concealment, for they happily abandon all pretense and expose their truest self for all the world to see. The good-natured spirits that gather about them are drawn to this honesty, and seek to guard it from those that would exploit it.

Blissful Defense

3rd Level Sky Coven Feature

While wearing no armour or clothing of any kind (excepting any footwear, gloves, belts, backpacks, certain headgear, jewelry, and other decorative or functional accessories as determined by your DM), your Armor Class is equal to 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Intelligence modifier. While benefiting from this feature, your travel pace cannot be slowed by any mundane weather phenomena, such as rain or snow. You also have Advantage on checks to avoid Exhaustion.

While you benefit from this feature, if you believe any other creature can see you, you are considered to have one point of Pleasure, which cannot be reduced in any way.

Sky Coven Spells

3rd Level Sky Coven Feature

When you choose this Coven at 3rd level, and again at higher levels, you learn a number of extra spells as described in the Sky Coven Spell List, and can cast them using your Spell Slots. These spells are Witch spells for you, even if they do not appear on the Witch spell list. If you already know the spell when you gain it this way, you can choose another spell from the Witch spell list to learn instead.

Witch Level Spells Learned
3rd strip bare, jump
6th cloud of daggers, levitate, misty step
10th power word: freedom, fly
18th dimension door, stoneskin

Joyous Jaunt

6th Level Sky Coven Feature

When you take the Dash or Disengage action while benefitting from your Blissful Defense feature, you gain an extra 10ft. of movement, your jump distance becomes equal to your walking speed, and you can long or high jump from a standing start, until the start of your next turn.

Adrenaline Rush

10th Level Sky Coven Feature

At the start of each of your turns in combat, while you are benefiting from your Blissful Defense feature and believe at least one other creature can see you, you can use a Bonus Action to gain one point of Pleasure. If the Pleasure you gain this way would increase your Pleasure Score beyond its maximum, you can choose to automatically fail the saving throw. When you do this, you gain 2d4 + 2 Temporary Hit Points, which last for one minute.

When you deal damage with a spell, or cause another creature to regain hit points by the same means, you can increase the damage dealt or healing received by an amount equal to half your Pleasure score, rounded up.

Aspect of Freedom

18th Level Sky Coven Feature

You can take on the aspect of the sky itself, fully embodying your truest inner being without reservation. You lose all fear, and take to the air like a bird. When you activate this ability as an action, you gain the following benefits for one minute:

  • You gain a fly speed equal to your walking speed.
  • Your movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity, and your speed cannot be reduced by any means.
  • You are immune to being grappled, incapacitated, restrained, stunned, paralyzed, frightened, charmed, or petrified. If you have any of these conditions when you activate this ability, they immediately end.
  • You gain a bonus to your Armor Class equal to half your Pleasure score, rounded up.

You can use this ability only once, and must complete a Long Rest before using it again. You can only activate this ability while benefiting from your Blissful Defense feature, and if you stop benefiting from that feature while this ability is active, it ends prematurely.

The Breeding Coven

The creation of life is a sacred act, one that must be taken with great care, and which requires a great deal of spiritual energy to perform. Witches of the Breeding Coven know this, and use the energy produced this way in the practice of their arts. This process is often painful and burdensome, but any good parent knows that, in the end, it’s all worth it - for this is not the pain of darkness and tyranny, but of new life, and of infinite possibility.

Sweet Parenthood

3rd Level Breeding Coven Feature

Whenever a creature within 5ft. of you exceeds their maximum pleasure and fails the saving throw, you can use your Reaction to draw out their essence and infuse it into yourself. You may also choose to deal 2d6 necrotic damage to that creature as part of the same reaction. Constructs and the Undead cannot be affected this way.

When you do this, the essence coalesces within your belly, forming an egg. The egg has a type which matches the creature type you drew the essence from. It gestates within you until you complete your next Long Rest, at which point it and any other eggs you may be hosting harmlessly exit your body. You cannot extract a creature’s essence if you are already gestating your maximum number of eggs. Your belly appears visibly swollen while you are carrying any amount of eggs.

While at least one egg is inside you, you are affected in the following ways:

  • You are considered to have a Pain score equal to the number of eggs inside you, or your maximum Pain score, whichever is higher. This Pain cannot be reduced in any way.
  • You gain a bonus to your Armor Class equal to the number of eggs inside you, as your ethereal spirit leaps to protect your unborn offspring.
  • Your movement speed is reduced by 5ft. for each egg currently inside you.
  • You gain a bonus to any concentration checks you make equal to the number of eggs inside you.

At level one, you can gestate only one egg at a time. At 6th and 11th level, the number of eggs you can gestate at once increases to two and three respectively. As an action, you may banish any number of your eggs, causing them to disappear from your body.

If an egg is carried to full term, it can be used in the creation of specific Black Magic tokens, as listed in the Breeder’s Arts section.

Breeder’s Arts

3rd Level Breeder Coven Feature

You gain access to the following additional Black Magics, and can prepare uses of them as you would any other Black Magic. Where these Magics call for an egg, that egg must be obtained via the use of the Sweet Parenthood feature.

Draught of Healing

Traits: Elixir (6)
Material Components: An egg from a fey, elemental, or celestial creature
Effect: The target regains 2d4 + 2 Hit Points. Their Hit Point maximum also increases by the same amount for one hour. Smaller portions restore only 1d4 + 1 Hit Points, and do not increase the target’s Hit Point maximum.

Induce Contractions

Traits: Fetish, Saving Throw (CON), Focus (120ft.)
Level Requirement: 6th Level Breeding Coven Witch
Material Components: An egg from a fiend, aberration, giant, or humanoid creature
Effect: When you prepare this token, you imbue all your Pain into the egg. You lose any Pain points you have when you do so. The target gains the same number of Pain points used in the token’s creation. If this would increase their Pain score above its maximum, they make the relevant saving throw as normal, and thereafter have their maximum amount of pain. This Pain lasts for 24 hours, and cannot be reduced by any means.

Curse of Parenthood

Traits: Contagious, Saving Throw (WIS), Focus (120ft.)
Level Requirement: 10th Level Breeding Coven Witch
Material Components: An egg from a draconic, plant, ooze, or monstrous creature
Effect: The target’s belly swells to double its size as they are infused with phantom eggs. While affected this way, they are treated as if they have your Sweet Parenthood feature and three eggs inside them. This effect persists until they complete a long rest.

Protection Instinct

6th Level Breeder Coven Feature

When you are hit with an attack while gestating at least one egg, you can use your Reaction to retaliate against your attacker, regardless of how far away they are. Make a Melee Spell attack against them. On a hit, they take 1d6 Necrotic damage for each egg you have inside you, plus additional damage equal to your Pain score. Each time you do this, you gain one point of Pain. After using this ability, you may Dash or Disengage as a bonus action on your next turn.

Share the Load

10th Level Breeder Coven Feature

When you absorb a creature’s essence using your Sweet Parenthood feature, you can choose to direct the essence into a different willing creature within 5ft. of yourself instead. That creature then carries the egg on your behalf.

Each of your eggs that is inside another creature still counts against the number of eggs you can gestate at once, and reaches full term when that creature completes its next Long Rest. Other Breeding Coven Witches that carry your eggs count them against the number of eggs they can gestate as well. The creature may banish the egg from their body at any time as an Action. While they carry this egg, they are treated as if they also have your Sweet Parenthood and Protection Instinct abilities, and can activate them using your Spellcasting modifiers. Any given creature other than yourself can carry only one of your eggs at a time.

Aspect of Fertility

18th Level Breeder Coven Feature

While you are gestating three eggs, including any eggs another creature is carrying on your behalf, you may activate this ability as an action. You gain the following benefits for one minute:

  • Your Pain score increases by one at the start of each of your turns.
  • Your Sweet Parenthood ability no longer reduces the movement speed of any creature affected by it.
  • You, and any creature carrying at least one of your eggs, gain a +2 Armor Class bonus.
  • Whenever you damage a creature with an attack or spell, or restore a creature’s Hit Points by any means, the damage dealt or hit points restored increases by an amount equal to your Pain score.
  • If your Pain score would exceed its maximum, you can choose to automatically fail the saving throw. When you do this, each creature of your choice within 30ft. of you must make a Dexterity saving throw against your Spell Save DC. On a failure, they take 3d6 necrotic damage. Each of your eggs is then expelled harmlessly from the body of its host, as if it were carried to its full term.

You can use this ability only once, and must complete a Long Rest before using it again. If your number of eggs is reduced by any amount while this ability is active, it ends prematurely.

Black Magics

Draught of Excitement

Traits: Elixir (4)
Materials: A droplet of olive oil
Effects: When preparing this elixir, choose between Pleasure and Pain. The target gains a number of points of the type you chose equal to half their maximum, which cannot be reduced by any means for one minute. They also have advantage on saving throws they make when that stat increases beyond its maximum for the same duration. Smaller portions grant only one point of Pain or Pleasure for the same duration.

Draught of Agony

Traits: Elixir (8)
Level Requirement: 6th Level Witch
Materials: A droplet of blood from a virgin
Effects: The target’s Pain score is immediately increased to one above its maximum, and they must make the relevant saving throw with disadvantage. For one minute, whenever the creature would gain Pain points, the amount they gain is increased by one. Smaller portions grant only the bonus to Pain points gained, for the same duration.

Painful Arousal

Traits: Focus (120ft.), Saving Throw (CHA)
Materials: A droplet of sweat
Effect: The target gains one point each of Pain and Pleasure, which cannot be removed for one hour. During this time, they are visibly sweaty and aroused, and suffer Disadvantage on any Charisma D20 tests they make.

Instant Gratification

Traits: Fetish, Spell Attack (Ranged, 30ft.)
Level Requirement: 3rd Level Witch
Materials: A pair of worn underwear
Effect: The target’s Pleasure score is immediately increased to one higher than its maximum value, and it must make the relevant Saving Throw with Disadvantage. On a failure, it loses all its Pleasure points, and takes 2d6 Psychic damage.

Curse of Impotency

Traits: Focus (60ft.), Contagious, Saving Throw (CON)
Level Requirements: 6th Level Witch
Materials: A sprig of aloe
Effects: The target immediately loses all their Pain and Pleasure points, and cannot gain more until they complete a Long Rest. Whenever they would gain Pain or Pleasure for the duration, they take an equal amount of necrotic damage instead.

Curse of Hysteria

Traits: Focus (30ft.), Contagious, Saving Throw (CHA)
Level Requirements: 10th Level Witch
Materials: A single rose
Effects: The target becomes charmed by every creature they can see, and their Pleasure score begins to increase at a rate of one point per minute. Any Pleasure they gain this way cannot be reduced. This effect ends when their Pleasure Score is increased above its maximum, and they fail the saving throw. A creature that is immune to being charmed cannot be affected this way.

Talisman of Purity

Traits: Fetish, Focus (30ft.), Saving Throw (WIS)
Level Requirements: 18th Level Witch
Materials: An iron rod
Effects: The target loses all its Pleasure points, and cannot gain more for one hour. While affected this way, when the target’s Pain score would be increased above its maximum, it has advantage on the saving throw. On a success, it gains 2d4 + 4 Temporary Hit Points, which last until this effect ends.

Talisman of Debauchery

Traits: Fetish, Focus (30ft.), Saving Throw (CHA)
Level Requirements: 18th Level Witch
Materials: A bolt of fine silk
Effects: The target loses all its Pain points, and cannot gain more for one hour. While affected this way, when the target’s Pleasure score would be increased above its maximum, it has advantage on the saving throw. On a success, it regains 4d4 + 8 Hit Points.
